What is IIT ?

IIT means Indian Institute of Technology. This is India’s one of the biggest & important institute where student completes their Engineering studies. There are total 23 IIT’s across India, click here to view the location of all 23 IIT’s. IITs is governed by Institutes of Technology Act, 1961.

Why IIT is so important?

Government of India (GOI) allocates a huge budget on IITs. If students require any equipment’s or machines for the purpose of experiment GOI provides all those to them as soon as possible. There are professionals engineers under students who help them in their project. The research & development of Private companies are performed in IITs. This is the strongest pillar of Indian Education system. Many people describe IITs as “The Brain of India”

In a documentary aired by CBS, Vinod Khosla, co Founder of Sun Microsystems states, “The IITs probably are the hardest school in the world to get into, to the best of my knowledge”. The documentary further concludes, “Put Harvard, MIT and Princeton together, and you begin to get an idea of the status of IIT in India” to depict the competition as well as demand for the elite institutes.

How one can get admission in IIT?

Anyone who want to take admission in IIT, he or she needs to clear their entrance Exams which is known as JEE (Joint Entrance Exam). JEE has two parts 1) JEE Main 2) JEE Advanced. To get admission in to IIT, one has to clear both the exams.

What courses are available in IIT?

1) B. Tech (One need to clear JEE for B.Tech)
2) Post Graduate Level Program – M. Tech, MS degrees in Engineering. (One needs to clear GATE – Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering )
3) MSc. in Maths, Physics and Chemistry, MBA, PhD.

When should students start studies for IIT?

Most of the Teachers & Parents advice students to start their studies from 10th STD, this is trend most of the student start their studies after 10th. It becomes difficult for a State Board student to clear JEE as Syllabus of State board is weak in comparison with central board. To clear JEE one needs to be strong in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English. According to UMMEED research team, students who are from state board needs to start their studies from 6th STD.

What are the books that one needs to study & how to start it?

For the students who are in state board, they need to do parallel studies from 6th STD till 10th STD of NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) books of Science, Maths & English & CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) book of Science, Maths & English.

Some recommended foundation level books for 8th, 9th, 10th are
1) Physics (HC Verma)
2) Chemistry (RC Mukherjee)
3) Maths (Cengage Learning)
4) Aptitude Testing Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning books (RS Agarwal)

What is NCERT?

NCERT create researched syllabus to match the international level education. Anyone who wants to prepare for JEE, he needs to studies NCERT book of the same STD in which is currently into. For e.g.
If a student is studying in 6th STD then he should also learn NCERT books which is designed for 6th STD.

Parents who will be worried about how their child will cope with all these parallel studies, then we would like to know them that anyone who learns NCERT books can easily score 90+ in their state board exams as NCERT syllabus is well advanced than state board.

What to do after 10th STD?

After 10th STD students need to take coaching classes for 2 years for the preparation of JEE exams which currently cost is around 2-5 Lakhs for both the years.

All parents cannot afford these giant fees so we would urge them to make their child study from 6th STD to 10th STD all the books which we have mentioned earlier. After learning all these books he will be able to crack or clear entrance exams of these coaching classes which they conduct for 10th STD students after their SSC exams. If he clears their entrance exams they will force you to make their child study in their coaching classes even if you not pay their coaching fees as they will understand that the child who has cleared their entrance exams can get admission in to IIT. They needs these kinds of HEROES who can clear JEE & get admission into IIT.

What If any student who gave JEE Exams but unable to get admission into IIT?

Anyone who clears JEE but due to less marks he is unable to get admission in to IIT, he can get admission in NIT (National Institutes of Technology) which is considered best after IIT. If he is unable to get admission here also then he may opt for Government Autonomous Colleges. Many people opt for COE Pune, Sardar Vallabhai Patel College, VJTI also. If he is unable to get admission here also then he can take admission in private engineering college.

Whatever the student has studied from 6th STD to 10th STD will not wasted as same things are repeated in their engineering studies.
