Career in Network Engineering

Introduction : 

Network Engineering involves designing and maintaining both software and hardware necessary for computer networking. Network engineers are highly trained technicians and analysts specializing in local networks (LANs) and wide area computer networks (WAN). With the evolution of the Internet, Network Engineering involves coming up with programs, devices, peripherals and all elements necessary for computers to communicate. Network engineers are responsible for implementing, maintaining, supporting, developing and, in some cases, designing communication networks within an organization or between organizations. Their goal is to ensure the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for their users. Users may be staff, clients, customers and suppliers.

Networks can include: 1) Computer; 2) Voice; 3) Firewall. Network engineers may work internally as part of an organization’s IT support team, or externally as part of an outsourced IT networking consultancy firm working with a number of clients.

Any candidate can pursue the career of Network Engineer from the below streams
1) Engineering background.
2) Commerce background
3) After HSC
4) Even directly after SSC

The first step after getting degree of any above four streams is CCNA.

NOTE: If two candidates have CCIE certification but one is graduated from Engineering college and other one is graduated from Commerce, candidate with Engineering background will be preferred. Hence, the graduation degree also plays a vital role to become a successful Network Engineer.

Entry or Associate level: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) This certificate validates a professional’s ability to understand, configure, operate, configure and troubleshoot medium-level switched and routed networks and also includes the verification and implementation of connections via remote sites using WAN.

Intermediate level: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Cisco Certified Network Professional certification validates the ability to plan, implement, verify and troubleshoot local and wide-area enterprise networks and work collaboratively with specialists on advanced security, voice, wireless and video solutions.

Expert level: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Routing and Switching (CCIE Routing and Switching) certifies the skills required of expert-level network engineers to plan, operate and troubleshoot complex, converged network infrastructure.
